Craig never imagined
himself a DJ, he had been helping a mate doing mobile DJ work
since 1989, but never seriously considered it until late 1992 when
he penned a letter to a good friend who lived up in Cairn's
explaining that he wanted to become a DJ. So his friend told him
to "come on up and see how you go". So that's exactly what Craig
did. Early 1993 he left
Brisbane
behind, his family and friends and started a journey of music,
lights and new friends and horizons.
His journey began as a
DJ's apprentice to one of Cairn's finest and most popular DJ's,
who currently still plays and resides in Cairn's, DJ SmoothE.
Taking Craig under his wing DJ SmoothE showed him the ropes of how
to be an excellent club DJ. Starting in one of Cairn's popular
nightclubs for locals, Club 2000, it was only a couple of months
later when Craig scored his first residency in another of Cairn's
more larger and very popular nightspot, "End Of The World", owned
by Reno Nicastro who also owned "Club 2000". Very soon Craig was
doing regular nights and fill-in spots for SmoothE at "Club 2000"
as well as his nights at "End Of The World", building up his
reputation as an excellent club DJ.
Not satisfied with just
DJ'ing, Craig branched out into radio DJ'ing too hosting a regular
Friday night radio show called "off Ya Dial" alongside good friend
and DJ Gary Cook or DJ Chooky as the locals know him. The show was
a prelude to the Friday's night night-life, a sort of warm-up
before they hit the clubs. The radio show was to increase the
awareness of the local DJ talent as well as a showcase of the
latest club tracks. It was also a vessel to feature any touring
international and national DJ's and to promote the dance culture
up in Cairn's.
Still not satisfied with
this Craig also started writing regular columns in the local
Street Press 'The Son Of Barfly' to further the awareness of
Cairn's growing love for dance music and the culture. All this
exposure ensured Craig was on the DJ line-up of some of Cairn's
dance parties and dance clubs.
In mid 1997 Craig left
Cairn's to head back to
Brisbane. It was only a couple of months
later that he was offered a dream job of managing a Central
Station Records franchise in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. So
again Craig packed his bags and headed to the Gold Coast. During
his time he was exposed to more elaborate dance parties and dance
clubs and befriended some of Australia's popular DJ's at the time
like DJ Peewee, GT (Groove Terminator), DJ Paul Holden, the late
DJ Angus, DJ Michael Andre (Peter Andre's brother), as well as the
popular local DJ talent. Through his contact with the scene he was
invited to play at a few clubs and parties around the Gold Coast.
Sadly after 8 months of hard work and blood sweat and tears it was
time for Craig to move on to another chapter in his DJ career.
Leaving the Gold Coast and
"Central Station Records" around early 1998 he headed back to
Cairn's mid-year and re-united with another good DJ friend, DJ
Jahlion, who helped him gain a residency at the "Sports Bar", a
very popular local nightclub in Cairns, again owned by
Reno Nicastro at the time. He again scored a regular weekly column
write-up for the local street Press 'The Son Of Barfly', reviewing
music, promoting the dance music scene and local DJ's.
Unfortunately due to a broken collar bone, Craig returned to
Brisbane
mid 1999 and from there withdrew from DJ'ing until 2006.
Whilst Craig wasn't
actively DJ'ing from 1999 through to 2006, thou he been involved
in the production side of music. Doing remix competitions for
artists on the popular website acidplanet.com, Craig was slowly
learning the art of computer based remix and music production. Now
with a home studio set-up Craig is currently working on some
projects that he hopes will bring to fruition his dream of getting
tracks published and played.
The style of music Craig
has played and loves to play is 'House Music', although not
limited to this genre, Craig is able to play anything from rock,
pop to hip-hop. He constantly sources the latest and greatest
tracks from around the world via the internet as well as his
contacts in the DJ world. His collection is vast and varied and
spends hours updating his collection, meticulously organising his
music and preparing it for playing. Craig's beat-mixing skills
combined with his music selection has seen crowds pumped up and
leaving them crying out for more.
So now to the present and Craig now finds
himself part of the DJ team of Absolute Infinity, Australia's No 1 DJ and
Entertainment Agency. Having been in the team now for a couple of
years, Craig has played at Club Envy and Burleigh Tavern on the
Gold Coast, Bliss @ Grafton, a regular in Yamba at The Shores
Tavern, as well as doing weddings and private functions. Craig
will strive to bring the best music and to play it well wherever
he plays. You are all guaranteed a great night out when Craig is
playing. |
