DJ Fresh

It all began in the famous garage where my older brother used to be a DJ. It was also the place where my brother bought the first set of 1200’s that came to Australia back in 1988. I was only 14 at that time so I started to try and mix it up. I had no guide or assistance because to tell the truth, no one really knew how to mix or scratch around me. I kept at it till I got it and then I started ripping shit up.

1989 was the year I came out of that garage and showed my ability at a 21st where my brother was the DJ. There were 200 people at the event so I pushed him aside and told him to watch as I showed him a thing or two. I pulled out Get Busy by Mr. Lee & Happening All Over Again by Lonnie Gordon and beat mixed it and that’s when my journey began.

I then started doing birthdays, weddings, dance party’s and then that success flowed into the club scene. Dance parties were big events back in the 90s and I found myself doing gigs to crowds of up to 2000 people and had a few of my own as well. Fresh, Midas Touch, Jive Bunny, Rock Steady, Outer Control, Baby Love, Escape, Club Sass and many more were all events that I managed or had involvement with.

I also played at many clubs and bars. Some of those included The Tunnel, Pump, Stomp, Passion, Polish Club, Collectors, EP1, Embassy, Kingshead (chvis), Cave, Rogue’s, O’Malley’s, Diamond Lounge, Sahara and Observer.

The highlight of my early years were 93 & 94, where I was the DJ and MC for the after parties of groups like Boyz II Men, Salt & Pepper, Ice Cube, Cypress Hill, Lighter Shade Of Brown, Real McCoy and many more big names in the Industry. Artists and Australian stars would be frequent visitors at the TUNNEL where I was resident DJ.

I came to a decision to give it up in 2001 at the ripe age of 27. My wife and I had children and I wanted to be there with them and be a father but I always had DJ'ing in my heart. Every time I would go to a party or a club I would have a little spin if a friend was the DJ.

It wasn’t until 2006 that a DJ friend of mine told me that “old skool” is back in a big way and wanted me to DJ at Diamond Lounge on a long weekend from 9 till 10.30. So I did the gig and as a result they kept me on till after 12.30 because I had the house rocking. From that point I knew I was back where I belong. Many Thanks to Absolute Infinity and my mate for getting me into something I'm really passionate about.

Favorite Music: House, RnB, Old Funk & Retro that’s what makes me different. I've got it all and can play to any crowd, guaranteed to make you dance.
