Entering the world of turntables, late night parties and crowd rocking
in 1994 Dj G-Wizard started as a mobile Dj touring
Sydneys
backyards doing everything from birthdays to barmitzvahs! Today, G
Wizard still occasionally rocks the backyards and block parties. "No
shit I'm still doin the odd mobile gig these days, love the outdoors and
it keeps me grounded".
Moving on together with an unconscious decision that would mould his
career, G-Wizard hit the club circuit in 1996 with residencies at
Studebakers, Rogues, Coronation Hotel, Collector Hotel Parramatta, &
guest appearances and other premier Sydney night clubs.
By 1997, it was clear that creativity and a need to experience the
culture on an international level left G-Wizard with no choice but to
explore practical ways to nurture his career in the
music industry.
G-Wizard took residence in Ohio, USA
where he completed a recording & music engineering module at one of the
most reputable music and engineering colleges in the USA REC-SHOP
(RECORDING WORKSHOP)
Ohio State.
www.recordingworkshop.com Recording Workshop graduates since 1971 have
been highly accredited and have moved on to work on projects for such
talents
as Stevie Wonder, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Outkast, Ludacris,
Coldplay, Jewel, Dave Matthews, Audioslave, Puddle of Mud, Keith Urban,
India
Aria, Justin Timberlake, Nelly, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, N*E*R*D, and many
more of
today's biggest artists.
In 1999 he had made his way back to
Sydney
club scene playing a record number of guest spots, feature industry gigs
and of course a lock-down of residencies.
2000 saw the year that G-Wizard would play at the Naughty By Nature
afterparty in Sydney,
and a series of Support gigs for the likes of Brian McKnight, Ruff Endz,
Kci & Jo Jo and Kurtis Blow at there
Sydney
shows. Since then he has played
major shows with artists and opened for artists including GURU, Craig
David, Old
schoolers - SugarHill Gang, and Scribe.
Music production became a priority as DJ G-Wizard had been presented the
opportunity to remix songs for local artists signed to major labels and
also working
on his own mix cds. It wasn't long after that a recording & engineering
facility out
of his mums garage dubbed THE KITCHEN was established and in full
effect. GWizard continued working with locals cutting demos, remixing &
mastering,
working on radio advertisements for agencies and anything else
associated with recording and manipulating
music.
"2000 was the year shit got heavy again getting back into resident club
gigs This
was the year I did the infamous switch from Vinyl to CDs. For a mobile
Dj, this was the wisest thing I ever did technology was getting ahead of
me and the machines that were coming out just freaked me out!"
Whilst still maintaining a huge collection of vinyl and keeping his
mixing techniques G-Wizard decided to store the vinyl and explore the
features of the
new age professional DJ cd players.
By the end of the year G-Wizard had teamed up with a friend and started
REQUEST Magazine. Sydney's
premier Hip-Hop/R&B/Urban Street press magazine.
As Publisher of REQUEST magazine -
Sydney's
premier and only URBAN street press mag (at the time of est.), this
opened many doors of course and created
opportunity for G-Wizard to spend time with some of the most influential
names in
the music industry. Public Enemy, Pharrell of NERD (The Neptunes), Snoop
Dogg,
Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce & Kelly Rowland of Destinys
Child,
Nelly, Jurassic 5, NAS, Ice T, Nate Dogg, Chingy, Sean Paul, Ja Rule,
Xzibit, Kelis,
RZA of the Wu Tang Clan, J-Wess, De La Soul, Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent &
G-Unit;
are just a few of the long list of mainstream artists that G-Wizard has
rubbed
shoulders with.
However the administration and overall involvement in the media aspect
of the
industry wasn't' G's forte, with his creative juices busting out and his
creative input
being highly requested by major labels. Whether it be engineering,
compiling,
programming, mixing or mastering titles based on his trusted ear for
professional
sound output.
In 2001 G-Wizard teamed up with another Sydney Dj to mix a cd for
Universal Music Australia's Urban Hymns volume 3 cd. (Over 40,000 sold).
Yes! And it is true
to say that this was the first Australian Urban Mixed-Cod concept to hit
the
shelves.
Following this release G-Wizard worked with SHOCK Records to put out
Request
Volume 1 - an urban release to coincide with the magazine & movement
toward
the growth of urban music in
Australia
and its influence on the pop charts.
In 2002, G-Wizard worked with Jive-Zomba to successfully clear a Request
Magazine - JIVE Sampler compilation as a promo for the magazine and
Zombas
urban releases at the time.
The SuperKuts Volume 1 release in 2004 was the next big cd release fully
engineered, mixed, edited as well as mastered by G-Wizard on the SHOCK
Records Label.
This was the first installment of a two part compilation deal which saw
G-Wizard
mixing up tracks from the biggest artists in hip-hop and with no limits!
Artists
included on the Cd included Lil Jon, Outsidaz, Eminem, 2Pac, Dr Dre,
Busta Rhymes, Wu Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Outkast, Nas, Missy
Elliot, NERD
and heaps more.
SuperKuts Volume 2 was released at the end of 2005. Check out the Shock
Records website to view more info on the product and up and coming
releases.
Superkuts saw DJ G-Wizard embark on a national club tour in 2005 in
support of
Superkuts Volume 2 that includes over 20 dates in
Sydney, Melbourne,
Gold
Coast, Cairns, Newcastle
and Perth
throughout August and September. Media
coverage included radio and television campaign with G-Wizard's profile
lifted
to being recongnised in every state in
Australia
with rave reviews in New
Zealand.
DJ G-Wizard has collaborated many artists and Djs - engineering,
programming,
editing, recording, remixing and mastering their own releases. With
Executive
Producer Credits on The RNB Superclub cd series, through Warner Music
Australia
the Cd series boasts over 140,000 cds sold with 3 of the titles
achieving gold
status. Volume 5 hit the shelves July 2006.
March 2007 will see The highly anticipated RNB Superclub Volume 6
release - the
first title Warner Music Titlle fully mixed and engineered by G-Wizard
with Def Rok.
With G-Wizard Heading the release and National tour across
Australia
and NZ.
Today G-Wizard is maintaining a balance between resident and guest
spots,
traveling across Australia,
working on a number of projects ensuring he gets
enough hours in the studio.
