DJ CRAIG OBEY

The Elektrik Force’ is the new album project from DJ/Producer Craig Obey. It is due to be released through Hussle / Ministry of Sound Australia late 2005.

Obey has brought together musicians Michael Di Francesco (Moustache), Bret Hunt and Ben Garden (Aviators / Cabin Crew) with singers Yogi, Gabriel, Chance (Sunkids), Anthony Chiappetta, Darryl Beaton and Melanie George for an album of Rockin House and Electro.

Obey has had club chart success in Australia and UK with a number of remixes as Funk Corporation, two of which reached the Top10 of the Music Week and DMC Club charts Christmas 02/03; Disco Montego "Magic" and Aviators "Poison To My Mind".

In Australia, Funk Corporation remixes notched up more national dance chart tracks than any other local production team in 2002/03 including four No.1's, four Top10's and four Top20’s with mixes for Paul Mac, Hi Fi Mike, Rockmelons, love tattoo, Darren Glen, Disco Montego, Aviators, SubQ, illpickl and Good feat. Linda Janssen.

Obey's previous recording venture, Platinum Groove Project captured the No.1 spot on the national dance chart in 2001 and in 2000 his remix of “Free 2000” by AK Soul featuring Joceyln Brown, also hit No.1 on the national dance charts. Craig’s productions and remixes have and continue to feature on Hed Kandi and Ministry Of Sound Australian compilations.

As a DJ, Craig has produced a number of mix compilations including ‘A Night In the Life with Funk Corporation’, a two cd set including one cd of his remixes and original tracks. He has played at most major dance venues around Australia over the last 18 years, including a 6 year residency at Home in Sydney and residencies in Melbourne and Brisbane. Craig has supported many internationals including Roger Sanchez, Fatboy Slim, Deep Dish, Dimitri From Paris, David Morales, Norman Jay, Eric Morrillo, Basement Jaxx, Prodigy, Superfunk, Barbara Tucker and Gatecrasher to name a few. His mainfloor style of filtered house and electro-clash mixed with soulful and edgy vocals, wild scratches and swing grooves always deliver on the dancefloor. Craig’s DJ standing also led to radio shows and guest spots on Radio DEX, KISS Fm, WILD Fm, Rhythm Fm and TripleJ Fm.

As a producer, Craig's first studio recordings “Feel The Vibe” and “Can't Escape The Funk” came out under the Craig Obey vs Mark Munro moniker through Sony Dancepool and Fat Albert Records. Since then his production skills have lead him to collaborate on tracks with renowned artists/DJs Steve ’Silk’ Hurley, E-Smoove, Chance, Rob Tissera, Joe T. Vannelli, Disco Montego and Iva Davies (Icehouse).

In 2000, Craig built the Grooveyard recording studio in Sydney and put his training as an audio engineer to serious use.

Three years later and the ‘Elektrik Force’ Album project began.

The first releases for Craig Obey from ‘The Elektrik Force’ his debut album, are two 12” singles, “coolin’ @ the.bar” and “Hip-Ma-Tize-Me”. The first has already been a hit in clubland – 7 weeks in the Top10 of the ARIA national club chart and front of the box for many a UK DJ. Triple J in Australia has added this track to its rotation as well as many regional radio stations. The second features the vocals of Chance, the renowned singer from dance and funk territory and more recently from Prince’s new album ‘Musicology’.

“Hip-Ma-Tize-Me” sold out of it’s first run of vinyl in the UK in only 1 week and with “coolin’ @ the.bar” in it’s second repress as well Craig plans to tour China, Italy, Germany and the UK in summer.
