First establishing himself in Sydney as a promoter in 1996 with the massive first ever Christmas day party on Bondi beach (12,000 people) and continuing through the always busy and fun Therapy parties to being at the helm of the extremely popular “Insatiable” which ran for 12 months at Sugareef and was the catalyst to a renaissance of the previously not so popular venue. As a DJ, Crispin really started defining his sound and making his mark in 2000. As resident of the newly established Playtime party series, a wildly successful party, Crispin built a solid following of passionate supporters. The night had an underground feel as did the music – a style not immediately familiar on the dance floors of other Sydney clubs, it struck a cord with some and formed the basis for launching Sweetchilli. With Crispin as its driver, Sweetchilli is now undoubtedly the most consistently successful and best known tech/progressive house party in Sydney, hosting a wide variety of local and international DJ’s and acts each month. It is here where Crispin showcases his sound - with excellent programming he plays music centering on tech & progressive while seamlessly crossing into elements from other electronic genres. Putting in many hours in search of quality music each week is absolutely normal to Crispin – in fact it’s vital. Having (until recently) hosted his own radio show on FBI 94.5fm in the peak slot of 6pm-8pm every Thursday and now taking up guest slots as opportunities and time permits - the need to play fresh, fantastic and exciting music is a must and his DJ sets carry the same quality. The hard work and great sets have certainly been appreciated and noticed by others and it’s this hard work that has seen him enjoy gigs at events such as Renaissance, Two Tribes, Sounds on Sunday, Future Music Festival, Pacha, Gatecrasher, Gods Kitchen and Kink with internationals such as Hybrid, Lucien Fort, Sander Kleinenberg, Dave Seaman, Anthony Pappa, Paolo Mojo, Chab, Infusion, James Holden, Desyn Masiello & Steve Porter to name but a few. And in testament to Crispin’s versatility, he supported Groove Armada for the Sydney leg of their tour in October 2004 Internationally Crispin has played in the UK at Club 414 alongside John Askew, for Shameless at Le Souk in New York, in Miami for Red Ant Records and appeared on Ministry of Sound radio. With Sweetchilli entering it’s 6th year and still flourishing – Crispin is continuing to ensure a busy diary and fresh perspective on the most upfront music he can find. |
