To
you he's another name in an ever-increasing list of
up-and-coming DJs, all keen to make a break
somewhere in the developed clubbing infrastructure
of the West. But to thousands of Serb, Croatian and
Muslim clubbers in a forgotten corner of Europe,
he is the Pete Tong of Bosnia.
The fresh-faced 23-year old DJ brought trance to the
Balkans when he came over in 1999 after the war.
Normally a bastion of boshing techno, Chris
converted the minimalist masses with his thoughtful
and energetic style of tough, lush trance; he shies
away from giant floor-fillers and is one of those
rare DJs who you can trust completely; give him a
set at any point in the evening and he'll suit the
slot…and rock the shop!

When
Bournemouth, UK promoters Slinky visited
Bosnia in September 2001, their choice of warm-up DJ
was an easy one; Dodds was the top man for the job.
Embarking on a three-date tour with the Slinky sound
system in Bosnia, Chris built up a great
relationship with the promoters, which continues to
this day. Need evidence? Look at the ceiling of
Bagley's in London. Chris tore it off one Slinky
night there!!
This link was the break he needed and, soon after, he
began touring with other clubs. At the same time, he
began twisting his sound to suit more mature and
clued-up clubbers [perfect for the Club Class sound]
and a harder-tinged set with went down a treat at
the Nukleuz parties he played.
So we've already established this young DJ is greatly
talented. But, unlike so many greatly talented
bedroom DJs, Chris is hungry for fame and is utterly
dedicated to developing himself as an artist. You'll
have seen him cropping up everywhere from Mixmag to
M8, from Galaxy to TrusttheDJ Radio, from Channel 4
to Sky One. The guy gets around.
The time is now for Eastern European dance culture to
put the fun back into clubbing. And leading the
charge? Chris Dodds. See you down the front.
