For the last
4 years, Sydney's original
and most sought after DJ/MC combo has always been DJ Elroy and MC
Losty. The pair met in the depths of Sydney's
rave underground where they both started and found a friendship based
on similar outside tastes in music. They built a solid reputation at
Sydney's Sounds on Sunday @ the Greenwood Hotel, playing once a month
and at all the large weekend events held there. The team expanded
their reputation built at Sounds to hold a 3 year residency at Home
Night Club every Friday night at Sublime in the Beat-Fix room. The
pair are still rocking the room every week right up until this day.
Next in line were coastal shows; with regular gigs at Bustin in
Wollongong and Block Rocking Beats in Kiama.
They were then asked to play at
Sydney's popular night club; Kink @
Arthouse. Elroy and Losty have had steady bookings there for over a
year now in the breaks room, Broke n beats. Being one of the
highlights of the room, the pair landed themselves a residency at Matt
Hirds (Broke n Beats room promoter) long weekend event Dirty House
Sessions. After impressing so many, Matt also now books the pair every
year for all his events at the NSW snow fields: Off the rails and this
year they supported breaks act SLYDE (Fingerlickin Records).
Every year, Elroy and Losty are also asked to head line the MTV rail
comp after parties, the Juice events and play at Jax Night Club at the
snow fields of NSW, making them a yearly holiday attraction for
punters while at the snow. Last year, they also made their first
appearances in Melbourne playing at The Lounge. The duo impressed
promoter Ben Shepard so much that he later booked them to support USA
breaks legends the Crystal Method. Back up in Sydney again and the UK
promoters of Blowpop Australia noticed Elroy and Losty. They quickly
became monthly residents at their events at Candy's Apartment.
Home Night Clubs premiere drum and bass event; Fracture Factory, saw
the pair support Roni Size and Goldie. (Goldie even borrowed Losty off
Elroy to MC his two hour set!)
They have also done a drum and bass set at Sydney's biggest and most
sought after gig: The Big Day Out. They have both done solo and band
sets there as well.
Elroy and Losty are also music producers making everything from Hip
Hop to Breaks and remixing some of today's biggest Australian and
Overseas talent. 2004 saw the pair sign a world wide publishing deal
with Warner Chapple Music and resulted in a five track hip hop ep
which the pair showcased at Sydney's Big Day Out.
The pair has recently been added to After Hours @ YU on the long
weekend line up.
Elroy's promoting partner DJ Seven along with Losty have started to
build their crew brand Goonz, putting on events and club nights which
Elroy and Losty both perform at.
Tom Piper is also part of the Goonz crew as part of the music
production team involved in Goonz Tunes
Losty also boasts two interstate residency's @ Halo in Hobart Tasmania
and The Embassy in Townsville in northern Queensland Losty along the
way met DJ Matt Roberts and they two did sets together in many
different clubs over the years along side his work with Elroy, before
long Elroy and Matt where booked together to play back to back, a
chemistry was seen at once and it wasn't long before all 3 where booked
to play sets together, seeing how effortless it was to pull of great
set each and every time the 3 decided to form NU BOGIE as a group.
Matt started djing 10 years ago playing hip-hop and rap. You can still
hear these roots incorporated into his funky sets these days with his
original accapellas and loops. His style of music is fresh and edgy,
mixing funky house with breaks and hip-hop influences. His sets always
incorporate a lot of different techniques like scratching, beat
juggling and sampling as well as that unmistakable sound of saxophones
and big chunky bass lines. Just recently he was voted in this years
Inthemix Top 50 DJ poll at No 44 as a result of his many residencies
at Sydney's biggest nights including Sublime at Home nightclub (winner
of DMA for best club night in NSW 3 years running),
Fuss and After Ours at YU nightclub and Sounds On Sunday. As
well as playing in many bars, including Homebar, Candy's Apartment, The
Eastern, The Clovelly Hotel, UNSW, Coogee Bay Hotel and the Civic
Hotel. Matt also regularly dj's in Canberra, Terrigal and Wollongong,
where he is known for his happy and energetic personality behind the
decks. While also playing in Seoul, Korea and in Malaysia for the Ford
Formula 1 after party. Matt has played at some of the biggest parties
around Sydney including Field Day, Luna Park NYE, Mobile Home and
Sweatfest. He has supported the likes of Martin Solveig, Miguel Migs,
Ian Pooley, 2 Many Djs, Tiga, Norman Jay, Kenny Dope Gonzales, Smokin
Joe, DJ Sneak, Chris Lum, Joey Negro, Soul Central, C&C Music Factory,
De La Soul, Snap, KLF, Steve Silk Hurley, Duane Harden, Alistair
Whitehead and Jason Herd.
The last part of the puzzle was MC Fro. Fro and Matt Roberts had done
many gigs together over the last few years, and Elroy and Losty had
also been billed with Fro
and Matt at one time or another and things
seamed to always work and complement each other in regards to style so
they 3 invite Fro to be the last piece of the puzzle Better known for
rapping in night clubs around Sydney for the last 5 years, Fro
delivers rhymes full of an energetic flow & enjoys rapping over an
assortment of beats from Hip Hop & Breaks to funky house treats. He
works with many of Sydney's top Djs like Matt Roberts, Elroy & Illya &
always brings a party style vibe whenever he steps up to the mike. Now
the group has formed it has eared a weekly residency @ Touch @
Dragonfly as well guest spots at Plantation @ Empire, the Roxy and
Sounds on Sunday AS WELL AS TOURS COMING SOON!
